Did you know that a group of wombats is called a ‘wisdom’? Or that they are the Koalas closest living relative?
Wombats are sturdy, burrowing marsupials native to Australia, found in forests, grasslands, and mountainous areas. About the size of a small dog, they have short tails, strong legs, and coarse fur ranging from grey to brown. They dig extensive burrows and eat grasses, roots, and bark, mostly at night.
While common wombats are widespread, southern and northern hairy-nosed species are endangered due to habitat loss and competition with livestock. Conservation efforts focus on protecting their habitats.
