Sugar gliders are small, nocturnal marsupials native to Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. Named for their love of sweet foods like nectar and sap, they have soft, grey fur with a dark stripe and a membrane that lets them glide between trees. These social creatures live in groups, eating insects, fruits, and tree sap in forests.
They face threats from habitat loss and predation by introduced species like cats on mainland Australia. However, they are considered an invasive species in Tasmania and pose as a major threat to the critically endangered swift parrot.
