Madeit Benchmarks Explained.

As a curated marketplace, every application is carefully reviewed against our handmade benchmarks and the direction we are shaping for the platform. That doesn’t take away from the creativity or care that is put into anybody's creations, it simply clarifies the direction of Madeit.

Before we share what isn’t suited to sell on Madeit, we want to acknowledge the care and intention that goes into creating handmade work. Not being accepted does not mean your work lacks value or merit. It simply means it does not align with the specific direction we are shaping for Madeit at this time. Our benchmarks help us protect a clear and trusted handmade space for both makers and customers.

Your products need to feel handmade

On Madeit, it’s not only about how a product is made, but how that handmade story comes through in the finished piece.

Sometimes an item can be carefully constructed by hand, yet still closely resemble mass produced or print based products. When this happens, it can be difficult for customers to recognise the maker, the process, and the creative decisions behind the work.

We look for products that clearly show your hand, your craft, and your point of view. This might be through original construction, visible making techniques, material choices, finishes, or thoughtful design details.

Your work should sing handmade, not simply use handmade as the production method.

Australian Makers Only

You must reside in Australia and spend most of your time here.

Your creations must be made in Australia. While materials can be sourced elsewhere, the main value must be added locally.

To become a Seller on the Madeit platform you must provide your residential address (no PO boxes), your email address and your mobile number. This will never be shown publicly but must be included in your store details for verification.

Great imagery is essential

Images must clearly and honestly represent your handmade product.
AI generated humans or animals are not permitted, as they compromise authenticity and customer trust.

Your imagery should feel real, human, and true to the finished piece.

Handmade By You

On Madeit, handmade means you are deeply involved in the making of your work.

We expect you to be hands on in the majority of the creation process, shaping the outcome through your skills, decisions, and craft. Tools and machinery can be part of that process, but they should support your work, not replace it.

Your creative process should be something you can confidently stand behind and share if asked.

We also keep production intentionally small. Limited runs allow handmade to remain personal, considered, and true to the maker behind it.

Original Artwork and Design

Madeit exists to celebrate original creative work.

We look for products that are designed by you, shaped by your ideas, and reflect your own creative direction. Your work should not rely on copied designs, templates, or artwork that isn’t your own. This includes patterns, illustrations, graphics, forms, and product concepts. While inspiration is part of the creative process, the final piece must clearly represent your original design decisions. Originality allows customers to connect with the maker behind the work, and it’s a key part of what makes handmade meaningful on Madeit.

Handmade vs Hand-assembled

Hand assembled products are those created by putting together pre made or commercially produced components, with little transformation through the making process. While care may be taken in assembly, the creative outcome is largely determined by the original components.

We focus on work where the making itself is visible, whether through construction, technique, materials, or design decisions made by you.

Up-cycled Products

Up-cycled work can be a beautiful form of creative expression when the maker’s hand and vision are clearly present.

On Madeit, we look for up cycled pieces where the original item has been significantly transformed through your creative process. The final work should reflect new design decisions, techniques, or construction, rather than minor alterations or surface changes.

Simply repurposing or reassembling existing items is unlikely to meet our handmade benchmarks. The transformation itself should be clear and meaningful.
