Tigers are majestic big cats with orange coats and black stripes, inhabit Asia’s forests, grasslands, and swamps. Weighing up to 600 pounds, they are powerful predators of deer and boar. Solitary and territorial, they require vast spaces to roam.
Their habitats face threats from deforestation, agriculture, and urban expansion, reducing their living space and prey. Poaching for pelts, bones, and traditional medicine ingredients has led to fewer than 4,000 tigers in the wild.
Unethical captive breeding, often in roadside zoos, can involve inbreeding for rare traits, causing genetic defects and poor health. These operations prioritize profit over welfare, keeping tigers in cramped, unnatural conditions. Conservation-focused breeding programs aim to protect genetic diversity and support wild populations.
