Due to popular demand I have opened up orders for my tablespoon measures :) They are based on the Australian tablespoon measure (which is bigger than the rest of the world, fun fact for the day), holding approximately 20ml of liquid, and are the perfect gift for someone who has everything!
These are made from a variety of timbers and I currently have this classic curvy shape available, which has a delightful hand feel and is approximately 12cm long with a bowl diameter of approximately 5cm.
I start the making process by cutting out the shape on the bandsaw after drawing it in pencil. I then use my hand tools to carve out the bowl shape to ensure it holds a tablespoon measure’s worth of material (I generally use couscous or sugar to measure), and then finish the back of the spoon and handle using my trusty carving knife.
I sometimes add chip carving for a pretty detail, or a pyrographed design, before a light sand, and then a burnish and seal using my spoon butter, a mix of coconut oil and beeswax, I then buff to a shine afterwards.
Care instructions - wash in warm soapy water and dry with a tea towel. Re-sand and seal as needed every few months to retain grain prominence and lustre. You can use sandpaper around 240 grit, and any oil which doesn't oxidise quickly to re-oil (or my spoon butter!), for eg coconut oil or grapeseed oil.
Current timber stock is Silky Oak (pictured), Camphor Laurel, White Beech. Please specify if you'd like a particular handle design element!
