Straw marquetry is a very new craft in Australia although it has been in Europe for centuries.
Anyone can do straw marquetry. You just need a keen eye for detail and a bit of patience and in this fast paced, crazy world there's nothing better than slowing down and creating beautiful, unique pieces with a natural material - straw.
During the workshop, you will learn all the traditional techniques used in the ateliers in France. You will then be able to apply these techniques to create any number of items, from wall hangings, covering tables and furniture, making small items such as box lids or coasters - anything really.
Tracey Malady was trained by a French artisan in straw marquetry and is keen to introduce this new craft throughout Australia. In an effort to 'spread the word' the workshops have been discounted by 25% for the remaining months in 2025.
Throughout the one day workshop, Tracey will give a short history of straw marquetry and provide all the information needed to be able to continue at home.
