This unique large brooch in neutral tones has been crafted from found shells and beach fragments, the backing fabric of an antique Japanese alter cloth, vintage Japanese ledger paper, non tarnishing jewellery wire and earthy coloured thread. The striking cream and black frame is made from lacquered Japanese washi paper. The brooch back has been beautifully finished with matching textile detail & a small 'R' logo in metallic thread. Materials & Technique:
Many of the textiles I use are rescued from landfill or re-purposed fashion textiles, for e.g. discontinued interior textile samples; vintage Japanese kimono, obi & temple alter cloths; Rajasthani wedding gown fragments; hand stitched textiles from Turkey & Uzbekistan. Of course, I also love contemporary fashion textiles & lots of embellishments too... metallic threads, wires, beads, buttons, treasures from nature... basically all sorts of decorative objects!
Where appropriate, all materials & embellishments are adhered to a base textile or art paper using strong holding acid free adhesive or jewellery glue.
