Handmade Ceramic Butter Keeper
A modern take on an old-style kitchen essential.
This handmade ceramic butter bell keeps butter soft and spreadable on the bench using a simple water-seal method. Butter is packed into the inner lid, which sits inside the base with a small amount of water, creating an airtight seal that keeps butter fresh without refrigeration.
Finished in soft celadon with expressive cobalt blue brush strokes, this piece is intentionally a little wonky and imperfect, echoing traditional butter bells while fitting comfortably into a modern kitchen. Wheel thrown, functional, and made to be used every day.
How it works:
- Pack softened butter into the inner lid
- Add a little water to the base (enough to cover the lip)
- Change the water every 2–3 days
- Keep out of direct heat
