Introducing Jason from My Mini Viking. Where every item is handmade!! From his home in Warwick, Queensland, Jason creates incredible vikings to match a variety of personalities.
Find out why Jason started creating and why he is so passionate about the value of handmade.
Tell us about your creations and your handmade process.
With a range of new and recycled timber, I create miniature Vikings, I turn the body on a lathe and the horns and feet are cut out on a bandsaw.
Then using a variety of fur colors, each Viking comes to life with its own personality.
Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a handmade artist.
I've always been a creative person and my brain never stops.
Being raised in the bush you have to be good with your hands so I guess as I got older I needed an outlet for being a creative person so I taught myself woodworking
What is your inspiration or where do you find inspiration?
As a child my Great Grandparents had this little Viking figurine or Gonk that I used to play with - I guess having Celtic/North European ancestry probably had a play in it as well.
Where did you learn your craft?
I am a self-taught artist.
Why is handmade artistry so important to you?
Having lived in Europe, some villages and towns I visited have markets that have continued for well over a thousand years where people have made and sold all sorts of handmade products.
People tend to appreciate something and value it more when they know it was created with passion.
Jason is a much loved member of the Madeit Collective, posting regularly in our Facebook Group ~ The Handmade Marketplace of Australia ~ and sharing his new creations as they are released. If you haven't connected with My Mini Viking, make sure you join our FB Group and say hi !
