This one-of-a-kind handmade mermaid is lovingly crafted from clay and full of quiet whimsy. Painted in complementary shades of green, she features a delicate scale imprint, enhanced by a darker underglaze wash that brings depth and character to every detail.
Her head is thoughtfully formed as a small bowl, perfectly sized to hold a tealight candle, creating a soft, magical glow when lit. Standing approximately 23cm tall, she makes a beautiful sculptural statement even when unlit.
This piece was made in my Wellard home studio. She has been fired twice for strength and durability, then finished with subtle gold leaf edging along her tail and fins, adding a touch of warmth and shimmer that catches the light beautifully. When I was making her, I added some small hand rolled balls of clay so she has a slight chime when shaken gently.
A truly unique piece, this mermaid is both decorative and functional — an enchanting addition to any space, and a special treasure for lovers of handmade ceramics.
