The Magpie is one of Australia's most highly regarded songbirds. Also less commonly known as a Flute Bird, because it produces a loud musical flute-like song. The Magpie can mimic many other native and introduced bird species, as well as other animals including dogs and cats. They have been known to also mimic human speech.
The Magpie is generally quite tame, except in the breeding season when some birds become quite aggressive towards intruders getting too close to their nest sites.
