Introducing Ruby the Kangaroo and her baby Joey! This is the large kangaroo and Joey in the main picture. The smaller size is also available as a separate digital download. She was inspired by the real life Wallaby (and Joey in her pouch) that visit the bush near my house.
The instant download includes clear and thorough instructions that are easy to understand. This pattern has been thoroughly tested to ensure your success. She can be made from a non-stretch knit with a low, loopy pile. I have also made her from a fleece fabric with crosswise stretch when I could not find the fabric I wanted. To solve the stretch issue, I ironed a very light weight fusible interfacing to the back of each pattern piece. This was very easy to sew and a good choice. The soft fabric makes the toy very easy to pick up, carry and hug. The pouch holds baby Joey but it could also carry and hide all sorts of little treasures. Lining is used for the pouch and ear lining and it is a printed plain weave/quilting type fabric. Baby Joey's head is made from the same outer fabric as Ruby and the body of Joey is made from a fleecy fabric. Most of the project is machine sewn but there is a very small amount of hand sewing.
