Handcrafted in my local studio from richly textured, speckled clay, this ceramic Gang-Gang Cockatoo captures the quiet charm and striking personality of one of Australia’s most endearing native birds. With its unmistakable crest and soft feathers, this sculpture celebrates the Gang-Gang’s gentle presence and unmistakable character.
The Gang-Gang is my favourite Victorian bird — I’ve always been drawn to the quirkiness of its fluffy crest and the unmistakable 'squeaky gate' call that echoes through the treetops. There’s something quietly joyful and odd about them that I find endlessly inspiring.
Inspired by moments spent watching these birds forage and chatter in the treetops, this piece is more than decorative — it’s a sculpted glimpse into the life of the bush. Layered slips and earthy glazes bring out feathered textures and subtle form, giving the piece a sense of movement and warmth.
