"Flower Garden" - brooches B + C

Will you wear one brooch or two? This little pair go together so well, it seemed a shame to split them up!

This lovely one-off pair of brooches from the “flower garden” collection, have been handcrafted using vintage crockery pieces and lead free solder. Due to the age of the crockery you will notice some areas of very fine ‘cracking’ in the top layer of glaze, this is known as crazing, and is perfectly normal and does not interfere with the integrity of the piece – in fact it’s one of my favourite aspects of working with it and gives that true ‘vintage’ feel!

To create these recycled crockery jewelery pieces, I first carefully cut around the shape of the image I want to capture using mosaic tile cutters, grind all sharp edges, and either seal the edges with a clear lacquer OR use copper foil and lead free solder to create a silver border. All findings are glued in place, and patina applied OR polished. Pieces usually take a couple of hours to create, and I tend to work on one collection at a time.

The larger of the brooches is approximately 4 x 3.5cm at its widest points, and the smaller is approximately 3 x 3cm. They are light enough to wear together, and sweet enough to wear one at a time – you decide!
