Rice bags, also called Komebukuro bags were traditionally used in Japan to carry rice offerings to the temples. They were typically made with recycled fabrics and often decorated with hand stitches.
I made this bag with my hand dyed fabrics, apple green and charcoal grey on the outside, raspberry purple on the inside. I stenciled some motifs which I accentuated with hand stitching. There is a rainbow, a spiral and a set of triangles. The ends of the drawstrings are finished with pretty flower shaped knot covers.
Two drawstrings pull in simultaneously, resulting in the typical attractive star shaped closure.
With it's wide opening it lends itself well for holding sewing supplies, craft supplies, small projects, toiletries, jewellery, pharmaceuticals, collections or even your lunch! Generally great and eye catching when you are on the go, but also lovely displayed on a shelf.
The whole bag is lined and padded and stands up by itself.

Care: Cotton outer and lining, polyester wadding. Spot clean only, do not bleach, hot iron.
