This spoon was hand-carved in American walnut, one of the few non-Australian timbers I use. It's a great timber to carve with its straight grain, high oil content and beautiful grain patterns. I sanded the inside of the spoon bowl to highlight the grain pattern and left the tool marks showing on the remainder of the spoon.
