I really enjoyed making this vase, it is completely my work. I built the vase by hand using the slab technique, I have glazed it using glazes I made myself and fired in a raku kiln I also made.
Raku is an old Japanese style of firing where vessels are taken out of the kiln at 1000 degrees and placed into a bin of combustibles which causes glazing magic to happen, it is true alchemy!
Each piece coming from a raku kiln is an original work of art. I am very pleased with this Scorched Earth Vase with its organic lines and solid base and I was thrilled at the result of the firing.
This vase will look at home equally in a modern urban residence or a country retreat.
