This bag was originally part of a hand-pieced, hand-stitched quilt that I made in about 1985. The quilt has stood the test of time rather well, except the edges were worn through and it has become thinner as the wadding felted. However it was my first-ever quilt (and the only handmade one I've ever made), so I couldn't just throw it away. I took four of my favourite blocks and turned them into two bags. One bag I am keeping - here is the other for you to enjoy.
Description While the front and back of the bag are from the original quilt, one block each, the handles are new fabric. Using the quilt fabric for the handles would have involved the border fabric, which is the most worn, and thus less strong.
Technique The quilt was pieced (sewn together) and quilted by hand. It originally fit a queen-sized bed.
Details The bag measures 32 x 32 cm on the outside, and each handle is 45 x 4 cm. The bag can be safely washed in the washing machine. Due to my allergies the quilt was washed in 60 degree water and tumble dried for many years, but I recommend the bag be washed in cold water and dried in the shade. The fabric and wadding are poly-cotton (as I did not know that tradition dictates pure cotton for quilts).
