Description

I'm a fabric addict. I collect fabric and it sits in my studio waiting for the day it will be picked to become something new.
I collect fabric based on colour and texture. I also source my fabrics in the hope that it will keep things out of the waste stream. So I have quite a lot of decorator samples in all the colours of the rainbow, in various weights and textures. Once the fabric information is removed from the back of the samples, there sometimes isn't much fabric left to use.
So I've been working on a way to use these small bits, whilst also teaching myself how to do some improv quilting.
This wall hanging started organically and evolved as the shapes came together.  I was originally going to hand quilt the top, but my stitching was quite messy, so decided that machine quilting was the way to go.  I rounded off the bottom of the hanging to make it look more like a banner.
The timber hanger is a piece of hardwood that was reclaimed from a cabinet maker. I think it could be oak. I've sanded it back and applied a coat of beeswax to bring out the lovely wood grain.
This one-of-a-kind hanging does the dual purpose of displaying your pins and brooches if you desire. It's art with a twist!
Size approx. 38cm across by 56cm high.
