"Seven in One Room" – Pen and Ink Drawing
This detailed pen and ink drawing depicts a humble, timeworn cottage – abandoned now, but once filled with life. Remarkably, seven children were raised within its single room, a testament to resilience, simplicity, and the strength of family. The sagging roofline and weather-beaten walls hint at the passing years, while the structure still stands with quiet dignity.
Drawn in my signature graphite and ink style, this piece forms part of a larger project from the book, Based around my drawings Beyond the Fence – In and Around the Lockyer Valley, which I co-authored. The book explores forgotten dwellings scattered across the region, capturing their stories before they disappear entirely.
This artwork is not just a picture of an old home – it’s a tribute to the lives once lived within its walls, and a gentle reminder of the Lockyer Valley’s rich rural past. And once they're gone. and they will be, that's it they're gone forever.
