The Crux, or Southern Cross constellation has powerful meaning for many cultures across the southern continents, and connects us all through its stories of creation, seasonal cycles and celestial guidance.
This handcrafted heirloom ornament is made on Bundjalung country, from local reclaimed mango timber and brass, and is finished with sustainable handspun pineapple fibre for hanging. It is sanded and sealed with my mix of food grade mineral oil, beeswax and coconut oil, and can be re-oiled whenever needed.
This limited run is made using absolutely stunning local reclaimed Mango, and each piece is completely unique. The orientation of the constellation differs slightly on each ornament, and each has been hand sanded to 400 grit, and therefore there are fluctuations in surface and appearance - they have an organic hand feel with no sharp edges - each similar but delightfully distinctive.
This is a beautiful piece to gift to your extra special loved ones this Christmas, uniting us all under Southern Skies in this incredible Great Southern Land we call home.
Each ornament is approximately 58mm in diameter and approximately 10mm wide. Made using Mango timber, pure brass rod and brass tubing and pineapple fibre.
Care for your heirloom ornament: Wipe with warm damp cloth when needed to remove dust. Never place in the dishwasher. Dishwasher = sadness :( From time to time you can re-sand with a light grade sandpaper (for example 320-400 grit), and re-oil using a food safe and non-oxidising oil (for example food grade mineral oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, or my spoon butter!).
