Description
Fordite is also known as motor City Agate/ or Detroit City Agate.
This is not a stone in fact, but paint from the processes of painting car panels predating 1980's.
Before then, all of the panels on the cars were hand sprayed and the paint would drip onto the tracks of the lines. The paint would build up and people would scrape it off and pass it on for people to create jewellery.
Fordite is becoming quite rare, but there has been a few fakes getting around. The telling is in the colours, as cars were only certain colours pre 1980's.
This one is from the Chrysler factory in Detroit.
This large pedant is set in a custom bezel setting with textured backplate.
It also has sterling silver dust that has been fused.
Materials:
Fordite.
Solid 925 Sterling Silver.
4mm Sterling Silver Chain.
Dimensions:
Setting: 55 x 40mm
Chain is 4mm wide and is 50 cm long.
