Red Mallee Burl Timber

Red Mallee Burl (Eucalyptus oleosa, E. socialis) is prized for its vivid color, figure and heavy concentration of burl eyes. This native Australian timber has a distinctive mix of pink, red, and violet heartwood with contrasting blond or yellow sapwood.

Mallee trees are common scrubland vegetation and have a propensity for growing burls (lumpy growths that form on roots, trunks and branches as a result of the abnormal development of bud growth cells). Burls contain twisted, compact wood that is tougher than the wood from the rest of the tree and distinctively beautiful.
