This pouch has prints of gum leaves on all sides. Two sides are enhanced with outlines on the leaves and stems. Eco-dyeing does not use chemicals harmful to the environment and the pouch is made throughout of cotton.
Description: The pouch is 100% cotton, including the wadding and the stitching. The gum leaves vary in strength of printing due to the variations in the gum leaves, and the dyeing process. The front and back have free-motion embroidery around the leaves and stems. I would use it for safely holding my chargers and cables on a trip, or keeping dry toiletries but there are lots of options.
Technique: Eco-dyeing uses rust, vinegar and leaves to print on cotton fabric. Having laid out the leaves on the fabric, and applied the iron/vinegar solution, the fabric is rolled, tied and boiled for 2 hours. Later the two ‘best’ sections of the fabric were free-motion embroidered to enhance the leaves with variegated thread, effectively quilting the piece in the process. Then the zipper was inserted and the pouch formed, with lining of a neutral flower pattern. The binding on the inside seams was hand-sewn.
Details: The pouch is 22 cm square and 9 cm deep. It can be cold washed, with wool-wash. It could fade somewhat with lots of washing, but the quilting will become more obvious if the leaves fade a little.
