Introducing Leanne from LM Design. Where every item is hand drawn or sewn with superb attention to detail !! From her home in the outskirts of Camden, NSW, Leanne creates a beautiful selection of hand painted greeting cards, bags, wallets and more.

Find out why Leanne started creating and why she is so passionate about the value of handmade.

Tell us about your creations and your handmade process.

LM Design started from a basic love of learning and hands-on crafting. My range has grown to a large collection of handbags, totes, clutches, pouches and wallets. I love to repurpose fashion in particular I love working with denim jeans, turning them into beautiful bags and clutches instead of landfill.

A mental checklist of colours, hardware and style are considered first before any fabric cutting, clipping or sewing begins.

I recently expanded my range to not only include handmade bags, wallets and clutches, but also gifts and homewares including handpainted greeting cards and framed wall art which is coming very soon. After nearly 10 years as a successful cake artist, the excitement of creating wow-factor from my own hands has never waned.

Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a handmade artist.

My Grandmother taught me the love of creating from a very early age. I learnt to knit, embroidery, painting, cooking and even how to play the piano.

As a young girl I used to create dolls clothing by cutting hand stitching scraps of fabric. I would embellish them with sequins and beads.I bought my first sewing machine at 17 but struggled to find the time to use it during my early 20s.

'My love of baking turned me into a cake artist, creating 3D sculptured cakes with wow factor.'

During this time I developed my sense of colour and painting skills to recreate art into something edible. My learning journey continues to this day as I’ve recently rediscovered a love of painting.

What is your inspiration or where do you find inspiration?

Colour continues to be a huge source of inspiration, colours that go well together or compliment each other. Inspiration also comes from other artists, something in nature or the challenge to create something new.

Where did you learn your craft?

I started crafting as a young girl. I consider myself a self taught maker of many things. Most recently online classes have been my go to.

Why is handmade artistry so important to you?
